Review of China Refining Market in Jan 2013

News Spot:

China’s power consumption in 2012 expanded at a much slower pace than a year earlier due to tempered growth in the world’s second-largest economy.

he National Energy Administration (NEA) said that electricity used last year grew 5.5 percent from 2011 to 4.96 trillion kilowatt hours (kWh).

The growth rate was markedly lower than the 11.7-percent increase registered in 2011, echoing the slowdown in China’s economy last year.

Crude Refining:

Sinopec and PetroChina are expected to process a combined 32.7 -mil mt of crude in January, up by 0.6% from the previous month.

Sinopec set its crude throughput for January at 20.0-20.1m mt, up by 0.45% month on month; PetroChina’s crude throughput is expected to rise by 0.84% to 12.6-12.7 -mil mt in the month.

The two oil giants will have no turnarounds at subsidiary refineries in January, and they will raise crude runs at part of the refineries.

Crude:

Chinese refineries are expected to refine a combined 42.0-42.1 -mil mt of crude and fuel oil in January, down by 0.3% from the previous month.

Crude throughput may total 40.8m-41.0 -mil mt, up by 1.1% month on month.
